My name is Yosuke Hoshino. I am an evolutionary biologist working as an assistant professor in Nagoya University, Japan. I have dual expertise in geobiology and molecular biology that I combine to holistically understand bio- and geo-aspects of the Earth system. My main research interest is the reconstruction of ancient biospheres by combining phylogenomic analyses of membrane lipid biosynthesis pathways and corresponding lipid biomarker analyses of the geological record. Further, I seek to understand the physicochemical nature of reconstructed lipid membranes that enabled life to thrive in various ecological niches throughout Earth’s history, by incorporating biophysical insights into membrane dynamics.
